Romeos belief in fate places a significant role in the audiences understanding in the events leading up to act 3 scene 2. As the audience we already know the events that happen in the play and what is going to come next. “I fear too early, for my mind misgives Some consequence yet hanging in
the stars Shall bitterly begin his fearful date With this night’s revels, and
expire the term Of a despisèd life closed in my breast By some vile forfeit of
untimely death" Act 1 Scene 4 line 106-110. This quote uses the one of Shakespeares most common themes foreshadowing. As the audience we know what is to come from this and the events that will foreshadow this. For example Mercutios death, and then the death of both Romeo and Juliet.
